Microrealism

Small realistic tattoos with delicate shading. Done by Lucie and Klára.

Microrealism is realistic drawing at a reduced scale — a portrait, an object or an animal sized to fit a forearm or the space behind an ear. It relies on delicate shading and on keeping the motif readable for years.

Who it suits

  • You want a specific motif rather than an ornament — a face, a flower, an object with a story.
  • You prefer black and grey shading to colour.
  • You do not mind that small tattoos need a touch-up now and then.

Worth knowing beforehand

The smaller the motif, the fewer details fit into it. In consultation we often suggest a slightly larger size than people arrive with, so the drawing stays readable ten years on. Consultation and design are free, so size is something we can discuss with no commitment.
